About Me

I've spent many years listening to signals all over the world with SDRs.  In December of 2021, I decided it was time to do more and I got my technician license.  In the beginning, I spent most of my time on the air on UHF and VHF.   On 2/17/22 I successfully passed my general exam, and now you can find me on HF also.  In March of 2022, I changed to a new vanity callsign before the new FCC fees went into effect.  My old callsign was KC3THD and my new is W3DFX.  When I'm not on the air, I spend my time building custom mechanical keyboards, setting up home automation, electronics, physical and network security, and gaming.  Most of my keyboard projects are shared here on this site if you are interested.

I am a member of the Tamaqua Wireless Association, W3TWA.  I also operate as net controller once a month and I am the club webmaster.

My primary VHF/UHF/DMR station is an Kenwood TM-D710 with a J-pole antenna on the roof.  My primary HF station is an Icom IC-7600, Ameritron AL-82 amp, and a MFJ 989D tuner connected to a 80 meter end fed (100 watts) and a 40 meter OCFD (1500 watts).
