My Call Sign's History

The other day I decided to look into the person or persons that had W3DFX before I did.  I didn't have any specific reasons to do so, it was mostly just out of curiosity.  I knew some info would be available from the FCC, but their records only go back so far.

Thanks the the FCC's database, I found that the previous user was Vincent D Bishop.  He had the call sign from 1957 to 2008.  I did a little digging to see what I could find on this person.  He was born in 1920 and died in 2012.  He lived in Tunkhannock PA, which isn't very far from me at all.  I found his obituary online and learned at least a little about his life.

Prior to that, it was assigned to Allen Bendell from Woodbury NJ.  He was born in 1908, but I'm not sure what year he died.  By looking through some old Radio Amateur Callbooks on archive.org, it looks like he held this call sign from 1934-1941.  I was unable to find any other real information so far, but I hope that I may find out more in the future.

I can't find any indications that this call sign was used prior to 1935.  I went back into the early 20's, but found nothing at all, so I assume that it was not used prior to 1935.  It was pretty interesting to look into the history of my call sign.  In the off chance that anyone happens to be reading this and also happens to know any more information on either of these people, please let me know.
